Methodology

Every calculator implements the standard industry first-estimate method for its equipment type, cross-checked against published guidance from sources such as ENERGY STAR sizing tables, ACCA residential design manuals (Manual J/S/D concepts), DOE appliance standards and common state plumbing/septic codes. Where codes vary by state or country, we say so on the page and recommend confirming local minimums.

These tools deliberately favor transparent rules of thumb over black-box precision: they show you the ballpark a professional load calculation should land in, so you can sanity-check quotes and catch gross over- or under-sizing before spending money.

What these tools are not

They are not a replacement for a professional load calculation, engineering advice or local code review. Final equipment selection should always be confirmed by a licensed contractor or engineer.
